spotlighting the artwork of
American Artist Deborah Fish
Acrylic originals, sketches and gliclee prints available
"A Window for Hope" was painted as the first in the Speckled Pup series. I later decided to do the Speckled Pup artwork as pencil drawings. But this little girl who I named "Hope" still looks out the window, holding her pup. All our children need some hope.

Showing the migration of elephants, the original of "Pause for Play" was painted as a gift for one of my daughters-in-law who adored elephants. These great beasts are well known for their matriarchial and family centered lives. And as all parents know, rest stops must be had for the little ones!!!!

As you can see, a few of my originals are available to be purchased at this time. Or you may choose to order a print. The originals and prints are on canvas and have been sprayed with a clear acrylic spray to protect them from damage. They will be sent in an appropriately sized shipping tube and must be insured to make certain your purchase arrives safely. Your piece will be ready to stretch & mount on a frame upon its arrival.
The prints are reproduced right here at Heartworks Gallery. Once the print has dried, it is sprayed with a clear acrylic layer to protect the inks from running. We then enhance the print by touching it up here and there with the same acrylic paints used on the originals. When finished it has similar texture and look as the original. The price for a print is $25.00 per square foot (rounded to the nearest dollar). To order any original or print, go to "Order Art" in the web page browser (or click on the photograph of the art piece you are interested in) and fill in the necessary information and submit it to us. Please note that due to printer limitations we can make prints only up to 24" wide, so in discussing size of prints, the fact that the print must be less than 24" wide to allow for a margin to stretch around the frame is necessary, or you could choose to have it the full 24" wide printed, but then would have some of the painting actually on the top and bottom of the stretcher frame. Some art pieces nowdays are in fact done on purpose that way, with all sides of the frame actually being a part of the art piece and no frame needed therefore.
We are also glad to offer you the opportunity to commission a painting of your choice. Please go to the webpage in the browser titled "Order Art". Put in your specifications and address information and we will discuss the details with you including size, price, and timing. Thank you for visiting us.

"Jasmine" is my granddaughter. I painted this picture of her as the 2nd in the Speckled Pup series before I decided to make them as pencil sketches. However this little girl is a charmer. She smart, she's pretty, she's got a great sense of humor, and she says, "me & Nana are artists." You can hardly blame me for cherishing this little skamp!

"Two Kids" was most enjoyable for me to paint as it shows our youngest son with a baby goat we were raising at the time. What fun kids are to watch.... they bound straight up into the air as if set on springs. And human children have almost as much energy!

"Child with Sunflower" is one of my earliest paintings. I just love the little overalls she's wearing and the intense concentration on her small face.

This painting, done of my much loved cat, Smudgie, was begun quite a few years ago, perhaps as long ago as 1980 or thereabouts. I didn't finish it then, but put in the closet and forgot about it. During its stay "in the closet", we moved a few times, and the canvas suffered a cut in the fabric. When I finally decided to finish the painting, I incorporated the torn spot as a tear in a leaf. We were owned by Smudgie for about 14 fun filled years. She was an acrobat of the highest order, and also enjoyed mothering so much that she nursed kittens not her own. Smudgie lives on in my heart as well as now having a portrait of her own.

"He's Coming NOW!" was the proclaimation my enthusiastic 4 year old son declared in an excited whisper to me. We were viewing an extraordinarily gorgeous sunset wherein the very sky seemed aflame & one could easily think only such glory could accompany our Lord & the angels upon His 2nd coming. I wish we all would retain that vibrant joy regarding Christ's & His soon return! "Except ye become as little children, ye shall not see the kingdom of heaven!"

Nothing is cuter than owl babies. Here we have three owlets (two different species) in the grass. And the one is being so brave, hissing and making himself as big as he can!

"Cheetah Valley" was painted in the 2003. I really enjoyed working on this painting which shows 2 cheetah families in close proximity, which is unusual. There are also some hidden faces as well. See if you can find the hiding cheetahs. Cheetahs are my favorite big cat.

The title is taken from Christ's words when He noted that, "foxes have holes, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no where to lay His head". The title may be full of pathos, but the painting itself was fun to do and fun to look at. Can you find the box turtle, a rabbit, a spider and a toad in addition to the foxes, chipmunk and cedar waxwing?

" Here I Come" was such fun to paint. It shows our Lord getting ready for His triumphal return to earth to bring back His faithful people. There is much symbolism in the painting from the Holy Spirit being represented by a dove to the Lily of the Valleys and the Rose of Sharon on the noble white steed Christ is about to mount. You can see a glimpse of our earth through the clouds.
"Africa" is my attempt at capturing on canvas some of the wonderful wildlife of that great continent. I'm especially fond of the big cats & of elephants.

When I saw a photograph of these porcupines, I just had to paint them. In spite of their so sharp needles, they look like they are enjoying their time together, eating the things they consider delectible.

"Bobcat Kitten" was painted in the 1980's and shows a youngster up in a tree. He almost looks like a household kitten until you notice the ear tufts. This painting is one of my early ones but has remained my husband's all time favorite

One of my earlier paintings, "For the Joy Set Before Him" shows our Lord contemplating both the suffering He is about to experience and the reward of saved souls His sacrifice will win. And the joy of saving our souls was enough for Him to brave everything! He sees the repentent thief on the cross, the centurian, Mary of Bethany, Peter, and Joseph of Aremethia. Maybe He saw your face too. I hope so.

"Lamb of God" is the first in a set of two, the other being "Lion of the Tribe of Judah". This duo is intended to show the two roles Christ has played for us. This is my first attempt at kinesthetic art as with the prints I cut both into longitudinal strips of equal size & then glue them onto an accordian pleated base, first one from "Lamb of God" & then one from "Lion" & so forth. The resulting peace shows one painting when looked at from the left side, and the other painting when looked at from the right side.
This painting attempts to show the Christian's walk through life's journey. "Take the world I have to offer," whispers the sly serpent. And yeilding, each of us has become a being whose life style is incompatible with living eternally. The cross gave the death blow to that "old serpent, the devil". The Rescuer's tomb is empty because He was, afterall, not guilty, and death could have no lasting power over Him. His life was always totally compatible with eternal life. A leopard cannot change its spots & the sinner cannot quit his sinning. So he's given a new birth & the gift of the Holy Sprit. The new Christian finds he must immerses himself in The Word & takes into his very soul the meaning of the Lamb's spilt blood & torn flesh. The journey of "growing up in Christ" begins. The Laws of Life is written into the willing Christian's heart. Jesus helps him "crucify the old man" & puts to death his selfishness. The Christian does continue to experience the temptations of the devil who hasn't taken his defeat easily & is even now lashing his tail in furious death throes. The Follower of Christ chooses to stay as connected to his Lord as the branches of the fruitful grapevine do to the vine trunk. He knows that soon His Lord will return & an amazing adventure into the joys of all eternity will begin. All his questions will be answered. No more pain, suffering or death. Best of all will be the continuation, now face to face, of his friendship with his Lord.

"Tag At Twilight - PJ & Geremiah"
Original acrylic on canvas
24" x 30"
Private Collection
Commissioned Painting
This painting was done for a fellow horse lover. She is owner of the horse pictured, a Friesian/Percheron stallion named "Nero's Geremiah" He is enjoying a run at twilight. Pictured with him is PJ, a little terrior mix. PJ now lives on only in the memory of the family who loved him, but Geremiah is both loved as a pet and valued as the stallion at his home in SE Minnesota.. You should see his LONG mane, tail, and leg feathers!
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of creating this painting. It is more difficult than you might think though, to paint a black horse!!!! It was fun detailing the painting with Queen Anne's Lace, chicory and red clover flowers as well as the little fireflies in the grass and the clouds, moon and stars in the sky.
