Having drawn & painted since childhood, I know that my talent is a gift from the Creator. Primarily self-taught in matters of art, I would also say that my mother encouraged my talent & taught me many of the basics of art, including perspective. Feeling that becoming a professional artist would mean an uncertain livelihood, I pursued other careers. I received a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, then a Masters in Education. I married & had 6 children - 3 thru birth & 3 thru adoption. During my children's formative years, I was a stay at home mom. My husband & I also fostered 9 children during those years. To help provide for the family as the children became older, I worked in a variety of professions. The professions I most enjoyed were those of motherhood, being an EMT instructor, & being a child protection case manager. Throughout the years, I painted when I could find the time, but most pieces were done as gifts for family members & friends. When the last of the six children left home, I decided to pursue full time my interest in art. My favorite medium is acrylics on canvas. I also greatly enjoy doing pencil sketches. As to subject matter & style: pretty much nothing is off limits although children, animals & topics with a spiritual nature are my favorite themes. And realism is almost always the style attempted. Heartworks Gallery on-line store was created for showing & making available my art. Our daughter, Krystal Clark is the business manager. Krystal was born in the country of Guatemala & came to join the Fish family when she was 7 1/2 years old. Krystal is a married mom with two small children. She juggles motherhood & being a wife with full time work in the field of social work & with helping her mom with the business end of Heartworks Gallery. She is also working part time on a master's degree in business administration.
TheSpeckled Pup Card Series was conceived when Debbie heard a television talk
hostess tell about the time a politician's wife came to her church when she was a
little child. The lady kindly spoke to her & said she was "Pretty as a speckled pup". Those few words gave the child a warm feeling & the spark that set her to thinking she could be someone & could make a difference in the world. That she has gone on to do in a big way. Those of us at Speckled Pup want to pass our blessings on too. We want to do that thru the warm feelings anyone looking at the cards & reading your message is likely to have. We also want to do that by sending 100% of the profit of the Speckled Pup greeting card series to children's charities. Those charities will include but are not limited to International Children's Care which is the agency through whom we adopted our three daughters. International Childrens' Care has family based orphanages in many third world countries & in some cases is able to help these children find permanent adoptive homes. The cards themselves show sketches of young children & dogs or puppies in whimsical poses. Most of the pets on the cards are drawn from canines posted on the Petfinder website. Petfinder is dedicated to helping unwanted animals find a permanent loving home. We'd encourage you to look for your next pet at Petfinder.org. Please note that Speckled Pup is trademark protected.
We hope you will feel free to browse our website & maybe order a painting, print or some cards from the Speckled Pup series. Thanks for visiting us.
